Special Topics Course Description
In the Pilates studio, we are likely to encounter clients who have been diagnosed with joint hypermobility or a connective tissue disorder, or perhaps they just seem unusually “bendy.” Increased flexibility often means these folks can be very successful at Pilates, but they may be at higher risk for pain and may experience particular challenges relating to proprioception, motor control, and recovery after exercise. By understanding the current research around hypermobility and related disorders, we can improve our exercise programming, cueing, coaching and communication in order to meet our clients where they are.
