Special Topics Course Description
Osteoporosis is a disease of low bone mass and disrupted bone microarchitecture, leading to decreased bone strength and an increased risk of fracture. 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 years and 1 in 5 men will experience osteoporotic fractures in their lifetime! Many of our Pilates students will have a diagnosis of osteopenia or osteoporosis, or be in an at-risk demographic. In this Special Topics course, we will learn what to be cautious about or avoid in the Pilates studio, as well as what the research says about exercise and the prevention or amelioration of osteoporosis.
