Special Topics Course Description

In this workshop, we’ll talk about what is broadly called science media literacy: how do we assess news articles, social media posts, and online discourse to determine what is evidence-based information and what is pseudoscience, misinformation, or BS? We’ll be looking specifically at the online rehab/fitness/movement space for instances where a little bit of research has been used to make outsized claims or where outdated ideas are being perpetuated despite evidence to the contrary. And we’ll learn strategies for judging the quality of the information we encounter without having to read all of the relevant research ourselves.
